Sam Butler Signs With Triple R Racing To Run 2020 Schedule at Hickory Motor Speedway
(Hickory, NC) – 16-year-old Sam Butler has signed with North Carolina’s Triple R Racing for the 2020 racing season. The Indiana-native has spent the last two years behind the wheel of a Legends Car, racing across the country with Ohio-based Miller Performance Motorsports (MPM). Butler will pilot the No. 81 in the Late Model Stock division at Hickory Motor Speedway with former Jr Motorsports Car Chief, Steven Civitarese, as Crew Chief.
“I am so excited for this opportunity with Triple R,” Butler said. “I have enjoyed the past couple season with MPM and we had a lot of success in our Legends Car, but I am ready for this new challenge. I have been able to develop a solid relationship already with Zach Bruenger, Triple R’s Team Owner. He has come to several Legends races and even spotted for me a few times. We work well together and I’m excited to see what we can accomplish with Steven (Civitarese) in the mix as well at Hickory this year.”
Bruenger, a Late Model veteran racer at Hickory, combined forces with Civitarese and Zach McDaniels to form Triple R Racing and this 2020 season will be their first showcase for their combined abilities.
“This is a dream of mine that I’ve been working on for the past couple of years. It is awesome to see it coming to fruition,” Bruenger said. “Sam is a great driver and I have enjoyed working with him already. Having Steven (Civitarese) and Zach (McDaniels) come on board has been incredible. I think we have the right combination of knowledge, experience, and driving ability to have an extraordinary 2020 season that will see Sam in Victory Lane at least a time or two.”
Civitarese has worked with a lot of talented drivers over the years at JR Motorsports.
“Sam has a lot of natural talent, which can’t be taught, but can be developed,” he said. “I am looking forward to helping him continue to develop that this year at Hickory and maybe at a few other tracks later in the season. I’ve seen what he can do behind the wheel of a Legend Car, and those things are some of the best machines to teach kids how to drive. He will have a learning curve with the Late Model, but his test sessions have already been solid and I know he will be battling at the front of the pack early in this 2020 season.”
At 15-years-old, Butler has built up a solid racing resume. After a decorated Quarter Midget career, the young driver has earned back-to-back Indiana State Young Lions’ Division Championships in his Legends Car in 2018 and 2019 and last year he also earned the Bojangles’ Summer Shootout Young Lions Championship, the Young Lions Race of Champions Win during the Legends Asphalt Nationals Event at Carteret County Speedway (NC) in October, and numerous victories at various tracks across the country.
